Pandemic Risk Management

June 21st, 1:00-3:00 pm

Pandemic threats arising from infectious diseases represent one of the greatest global risks to health and economic prosperity. Just as the Ebola epidemic ravaged lives in West Africa and derailed economies, other threat such as MERS, ZIKA and flu viruses lurk and are capable of similar devastation. Managing these global infectious threats such that their health and economic impacts are minimized requires dramatic improvements in local health systems as well as global institutions such the World Health Organization and the World Bank. This talk will outline the nature of these infectious diseases threats focusing on the experience of the Ebola crisis in West Africa and describe a variety of efforts underway to improve pandemic risk management.
