What will the rapid growth of Toronto mean to the next generation?

* Postponed *

Toronto currently tops international indices as one of the best cities to live in the world. It is so attractive that economists predict that in the next 25 years there will be an additional 3 million people joining the 6 million of us that inhabit the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area today. This new growth can result in greater traffic congestion, rising housing costs and other issues arising from intensification. In preparation for this regional intensification, governments have already begun to enact policies to lay the groundwork for growth. Examples of this can be seen in the freezing of development in the Greenbelt, the investment of billions of dollars in new transit plans, and in the drafting of new planning rules for the development of places to live work and play. Will we be able to rise to these challenges and elegantly and efficiently accommodate this growth? Will our children enjoy the same quality of place that our generation has?
