Bio

Chris was born, grew up and completed school in Toronto before obtaining degrees from McGill and Oxford. He joined the Canadian foreign service in 1991, serving for six years in Moscow (1993-96 and 2000-03) and for a further six years in Kabul (2003-09), where was the first resident Canadian ambassador and later the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for three and a half years. In September 2009 he was named the Federal Conservative Candidate for Ajax-Pickering. He now lives in Ajax with his wife Hedvig Christine, and their daughter Selma Zolaykha. He is writing a book on the history of Afghanistan since 2001.
